Rafael designed and handcrafted the Skull Dining Table from the reclaimed 150-year-old Douglas fir beams he salvaged from Manhattan townhomes. Their surfaces are aged with a beautiful golden brown patina; saw marks, nails, bolt holes, and natural wear contribute to the character and aesthetic of reclaimed Douglas fir. Rafael loves to work with these recycled, ancient woods for their handsome appearance, robust stability, and durability. Rafael created this impressive 1 ¼" thick tabletop with these virtues in mind. Gold leaf and airbrush were used for the skull artwork he incorporated into the table. The skull, a symbol of mortality, can evoke powerful emotions and remind people that death is a part of life, the temporary nature of material possessions, and the need to focus on the soul. The base is made of old beams that show the beautiful ancient mortise joint hand techniques.

As with all of Rafael's pieces, this is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted, sustainable piece; no two pieces of furniture are the same.
